What is a waffle mold

Waffle formwork is a plastic piece in specific dimensions and shapes that is used to remove ineffective concrete in concrete slabs. Inefficient concrete is a part of the concrete slab that is not under compressive stress and does not hold any tensile member (rebar). Removing this concrete is very important from an economic point of view, on the one hand, and in terms of lightening the structure and reducing the absorption of seismic energy.

In the last decade, various ideas and plans have been proposed to remove this concrete, only a few of them have been implemented. One of the most widely used solutions is the use of reusable polypropylene plastic molds, which are known as waffle molds.

Waffle in English means a cookie with a window pattern, which is why it is used for lattice and window-like slabs.
